Where does craniosacral therapy come from?Craniosacral therapy has it's origins in osteopathy developed by Andrew Taylor Still. Still believed that the human body strove towards health and without 'restrictions' the body would often self-heal. His teachings were to remove 'restrictions' in the body. One of his students, William Garner Sutherland, became fascinated with the potential for movement of the bones of the skull, that were at that time mistakenly though to be fused together, ultimately developing cranial osteopathy. Craniosacral therapy developed from these biomechanical roots into a practice that sees no external 'force' required while working in a holistic manner with the mind/body/spirits' innate healing abilities. Franklyn Sills has developed this into a gentle biodynamic approach which is renown for it's orientation to the ordering forces present within the human system.

How many sessions will I need?Although people can often gain some relief from their issue in their first session, people recover/heal at their own pace and most people require a series of sessions. This allows for the nervous system to rebalance and for the treatment to hold. It is most useful to try three or four sessions and then review. Chronic issues may take a longer series of sessions and ten is not uncommon.

When should I not have craniosacral therapy? If you have a cold or infection - then please rebook. Immediately after an immunisation - please wait two weeks until your system is settled. If you have a recent skull fracture/intracranial pressure. Within six months of a stroke/acute haemorrhage. Any recent leakage in spinal fluid such as may have occurred with a lumbar puncture.
